Counseling Philosophy

I believe that we are all created in the image of God. As His image bearers, we embody such deep value and preciousness, but we also embody brokenness as we are a part of a broken world. There is not one of us who are exempt from suffering, but we are all invited to the table to taste in God’s grace. He is the author and redeemer of our lives and our stories. He is in the business of resurrecting new life! I believe that counseling helps to address the wounds that the body, heart, and soul (mind, will, and emotions) experience and opens us up to the reality of God’s power, promises, and healing. For those who are not sure how they feel about God or if He even exists, you are absolutely welcomed as well! I will respect your preference if you are not personally comfortable with spirituality at this time.

We can lose touch with our value and preciousness as God's image bearers through dysfunctional experiences in our family of origin, through trauma, and through the enculturation process that each of us must experience. In our adulthood, we can see the effects of this show up in a variety of ways: addictions (drugs, alcohol, love, sex, food, gambling, spending, work, etc), relationship & intimacy issues, repeating dysfunctional patterns we swore we would not, people pleasing, lacking healthy boundaries, depression, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, lacking a spiritual connection, perfectionism, anger issues, control issues, and physical illness to name a few.

We don't have to live that way. The process of therapy is that of going on a journey of truth and healing. God's Truth shines a healing light on lies we believe about ourselves. God the Father, His Son, Holy Spirit, & His Word, are all a part of His Truth as the Wonderful Counselor Who can absolutely redeem our lives.

"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." Eph 3: 20-21
